The MEL® 90 excimer laser possesses an energy control system which maintains constant pulse energy over multiple treatments. In order to reduce the probability of energy deviations, a fluence test must be performed prior to each treatment.

The fluence test is used by the surgeon to calibrate the fluence before the treatment is started. Besides this, it is used by the service engineer for maintenance, set up and repair reasons.
